TwoCans is a self-hosted phone line for kids. They call from the TwoCans app on an old phone or tablet, a desk phone, or an ordinary corded phone plugged into an adapter, and you decide who they can call, when, and see what happened.
We built it because we wanted our own kids to be able to ring their grandparents without handing them a smartphone. It turned into a tiny phone company that runs in the corner of the house.
What it does
- People: choose exactly who can call and be called, and at what times.
- Phones: each phone on the line gets its own hours and limits.
- Call log: every call is recorded and transcribed, on your own machine.
- Voicemail: messages are transcribed too, so you can read them at a glance.
- Bedtime mode: the line goes to sleep overnight.

"A tiny phone company, run by you."
Private by design
Nothing leaves your house unless you want it to. Speech-to-text runs locally, recordings stay on your own storage, and the admin is for parents only. On a phone, it works as an app you can add to your home screen.
Install in one line
TwoCans runs on any 64-bit Linux machine your phones can reach, and a Raspberry Pi is ideal. There is also a package for Synology NAS boxes. The installer checks what you need, asks a few questions and starts everything for you.
