The short version
We set a couple of essential cookies so the site works. Analytics only ever runs if you say yes. Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for advertising.
Essential cookies
These are needed for the site to work, so they are always set.
- hd_session keeps your visit together while you browse, so our forms can be protected against cross-site request forgery and can show you their result after you send them. It is deleted when you close your browser.
- hd_consent remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies, along with a random identifier that has no name attached. It lasts six months, and then we ask again.
Staff sign-in cookies
These are only set for Hamlet Digital staff who sign in to our admin area. Visitors never receive them.
- hd_remember keeps a staff member signed in for up to 30 days when they choose "Remember me".
- hd_login_hint remembers the email address last used to sign in on that device, so it can be filled in next time. It is only sent to the admin area and lasts up to a year.
Optional analytics cookies
When analytics is switched on, the cookie banner asks before anything loads. If you accept, we may use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Microsoft Clarity to understand which pages are useful and where people get stuck. These services set their own cookies (such as _ga, _clck and _clsk) and process the data on our behalf. If you reject them, or simply ignore the banner, none of them load.
The map on our contact page
The Google map on our contact page does not load until you click "Show the map". Google Maps sets its own cookies once it loads, under Google's own privacy policy.
Things we keep in your browser
Your browser's local storage is not a cookie and is never sent to us, but for completeness:
- hamlet-map-ok remembers that you chose to show the map, so it loads straight away next time.
- hamlet-wa-bubble-closed remembers that you closed the WhatsApp "Hello there!" message, so it stays closed.
Changing your mind
Choose Cookie settings at the bottom of any page, or open your cookie settings now. You can also clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time.
We keep a record of each answer given through the cookie banner: the choice, the date, the page, your browser type and a one-way hash of your IP address, with no name attached. Data protection law asks us to be able to show that permission was given.
